Important example of eighteenth-century aristocratic architecture and Catanese Baroque. Villa Cerami, now home to the Department of Law, is located in the heart of the historic center of Catania, at the northern end of Via dei Crociferi and on the edge of the Antico Corso district.
The current structure is the result of various interventions that cover a time span from the construction which took place in the years following the 1693 earthquake, up to the contemporary restoration in the mid-twentieth century. Discovering Villa Cerami will allow you to retrace part of the history of the city and the University of Catania on a tour of aristocratic architecture and lush gardens.

Villa Cerami, property of the University of Catania, is one of the historic buildings, that Officine Culturali manages thanks to the special public-private partnership agreement with the University of Catania. The building – an example of Late Baroque – is a place of study, research and training: today it houses the Department of Law.
Officine Culturali will promote the planning and programming of cultural and social activities for the city also at Villa Cerami. Users – together with the community – will be able to discover, with different tools and languages, the history of this eighteenth-century residence.
The current layout of Villa Cerami, the ancient residence of the Rosso, the princes of Cerami, family, is the result of various modifications from the eighteenth century up to the contemporary restoration of the mid-twentieth century, by prof. Stefano Bottari, prof. Vito Librando and the architect Giacomo Leone. The promoter of the purchase of the university, which took place in 1957, was the then rector Cesare Sanfilippo, with the impulse of prof. Orazio Condorelli, thus achieving the objective of preserving a building of historical and monumental value for the citizens.
With its court, the rooms with precious vaults and the reception rooms, it represents an example of eighteenth-century noble architecture and Catanese baroque, in the heart of the historic center of the city.
